Alterac Valley Test Begins in WoW Classic Beta!

Blizzard announced that WoW Classic will get released on August 27, which is definitely a thrilling news for every fan. However, you won’t get to level your characters past level 58, for testing reasons.

The only thing that remains is to go your respective city’s Battlemasters and queue up for Alterac Valley for as much as you like. All feedback should be directed to an Alterac Valley thread on the Blizzard forums. The Alterac Valley closed beta test will be ending and the Field of Strife realm closed on June 17 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The aim is to create a progression experience that resembles the original arc from when WoW first launched. While some items "progressed" from one patch to another (example: Helm of Wrath), that will not be the case when Classic arrives. Items will retain the stats they arrive with.

From a systems perspective, WoW Classic will run off of patch 1.12. However, the in-game content will start from the beginning and release at a similar rate to the original game. The team has already laid out their content plans for both PVE and PVP content, but this most recent post deals with just the items (armor, weapons, etc.) available in the game.

Original WoW players will remember how quickly the game changed to keep up with the millions of people playing the game. With the benefit of hindsight, the devs know what is coming and can set each item's stats with that endpoint in mind.

While some fans might be upset that the items won't slowly evolve over time to reflect the various original patch updates, we do have to agree to Blizzard's point that item changes between patches are all about finding balance. So you won't be dealing with the same item-based balance and content problems you had back in 2006. Which is, really, the best of both worlds.
